The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has called for nationwide suspension of private healthcare services for 12 hours in protest against the National Medical Commission (NMC) Bill, which seeks to replace Medical Council of India with a new body. The bill being debated in Parliament today.

Doctors protested before GGH by sitting on road.They said that all nursing homes and hospitals observed 12-hour bandh, from 6 am to 6 pm, opposing the Bill.

IMA Guntur president Dr G. Venugopal said that after passing MBBS exams, doctors have to pass screening test of the government to start practice but now, the Union government is planning to allow ayurvedic and homeopathy doctors to allow practice allopathy, which is unjustifiable. Further, the government is planning to replace MCI with NMC. Dr Venugopal feared that without proper medical education and practical training, the ayurvedic and homeopathy doctors might not be able to provide proper treatment to the patients and will put their health to risk. Kothapet and Old Club roads wore a deserted look.
