Ponnur Anjaneya swamy temple is one of the oldest temples in India and is located in Guntur disrtict. It has more attention of tourists from various places. Idol of Anjaneya swamy is very tall which measures a height of 24 feet and 14 feet width ,which makes this one of the biggest idol in India and it is a single stone carved statue.

Coming to history,Statue was chalked in Martur granite mine , trolled by hundreds of Bullock carts in 1945 from Martur to Ponnur .All the villages en route helped in transportation .At that time only mud roads called donka were there.It was completed in 1969.Daily yagas were perfomed in Yagashalas states the history of this temple. Poojas take place everyday to shiva lingas which are near to Lord Shiva with chandanam which will be removed only once in a year.Five Lingas are loctaed near the foot of Lord Shiva which look similar in size of various idols.Five akanda deepas are located in this temple.Goddess paravathi devi on Black stone.In this temple, Garuthamatha statue is taller than anjaneya swamy statue. Garuthamatha statue height’s about 30 feet and width about 15 feet.Lots of workers have done their best to build this temple. Poojas and yagas were daily perfomed. In the presence of great pandits,temple was nicely designed.

Ponnur can be reached either by road or train . It is very near to Guntur city measuring a distance of 29km from south. Tenali, Bapatla, Narasaraopeta and Guntur are the nearest railway stations from ponnur. Nearest airport terminal is Gannavaram which is also called as V I J A Y A W A DA airport. So friends who did not visit this temple,go and take blessings from anjaneya swamy who is very powerful god that we believe.
