Guntur is not only famous about the mirchi,tobacco it is one of the best centre for education in our state.Guntur was a education hub since before the independence of our country.Even today there are large number of colleges in our guntur which provide educaton in Inter,degree,engineeering and PG courses.There are some historical colleges which made Guntur as one of the centres of education.
Andhra Christian College,1885
AC college was one of the oldest college across India.It was established in 1885 by Protestant missionaries from the U.S.A.This was the first college in India to provide graduate courses across India.It offers courses in Intermediate,UG and PG.It also consists of a Law college.Many eminent personalities like NTR,Sobhan Babu,Jaggayya,Jandhyala,Rosaiah are a part of alumni of this college.The beauty of this college infrastructure was picturised in many movies like Pilla Jamindar and recently Chalo.
Guntur Medical college,1946
The construction of the college was started in 1946. In July 1954, clinical courses started. The college began with 50 undergraduate students. By 1960, the number was 150 students. The postgraduate courses in pre-clinical subjects started in 1956 and the clinical subjects in 1958.This was the prestigious Medical colleges in the state.Lok satta cheif Jayaprakash Narayna was from this college.
Hindu college,1930
The Hindu college was established in 1930 in centre of the city.It was started as school and later it offers UG courses also.The main city campus was established in 1930. Later the campus for the College of Pharmacy was started in the suburban area of the city. This is one of the oldest colleges in A.P. Hindu college has P.G. courses separately in Amaravathi Road which is 3kms from main campus.
Govt college for women,Sambasivarao pet
This is one of the oldest colleges of Guntur establishes after Hindu college.This is one of the earliest womens colleges in Guntur.It is located in sambasivarao pet near Naaz centre.It offers Intermediate and UG courses.
JKC College,1968
JKC was established in 1968.It recently completes its 50 years and getting ready for celebrations.This is one of the famous colleges in Guntur.It offers UG and PG courses.The speciality of this college is they encourage women cricket extensively.
Andhra Muslim College,1984
Andhra muslim college was establishes in 1984 by Ex MLA Janab Umar khan.This college is affiliated to Acharya Nagarjuna University, Nagarjuna Nagar and run to the entire satisfaction of the University and Government with B.A., B.Com. and B.Sc. courses and also Intermediate courses with CEC, HEC, MPC, BiPC & HCML (Urdu) with attached Hostel facility. The Andhra Muslim College is having the Study Centre of Moulana Azad National Urdu University, Hyderabad and imparting coaching in distance mode for all the courses offered by the Moulana Azad National Urdu University.
TJPS College,1971
This is one of the famous colleges of Guntur.This college was established in 1971.This was also affliated to ANU.It has around 2500 students studying in the college.
Guntur Chalamaiah Karpurapu Venkata Narayana degree college,1960
The Institute was established in 1960 with a strength of 250 pupil and 10 teaching staff. The institute was then under middle scool level, headed by Late Shri Karpurapu Venkata Narayana Garu.This was located in Sangadigunta.This college offers admissions in UG and PG courses.
These colleges are well established and very famous since olden days.All Engineering colleges that are at present todsy are very new and many of them are not even existed before 15 years.These are the colleges that teached our parents and stood as pride of Guntur.
