Mica was a non metallic substance which used for many purposes like electrical insulation,thermal insulation and also used in cosmetics and toothpastes.Mica was known as Abrakam in telugu.It was a natural occurring mineral that is based on a collection of silicate minerals and composed of varying amounts of potassium, iron, aluminum, magnesium and water.
India was one of the major exporters of Mica in the world and our AP holds major share.How this mica relates to our Guntur was this Abrakam was first discovered in our Guntur around 200BC.This was stated by famous Buddhist monk Acharya Nagarjuna in his literary works around 2200 years ago.This mica was used extensively by us in one form or the other.Mica was also used for water purification.It attracts the impurities and toxic materials in water and helps in purification.It was used in water filters.
Our Guntur has its unique place in scientific field since history.We already that Helium was discovered in our Guntur.We are not only famous for diamonds,arts etc but also in science.
